Contact Lenses
Our extensive supply allows us to fit almost any patient that walks in our door.
If you’ve never worn contact lenses, think you are too old or young, or think your prescription is too bad, think again! We can fit almost any age in almost any prescription.
Astigmatism
Technology has drastically changed over the last several years, making it possible to fit patients that were once not good candidates, especially those with high astigmatism prescriptions.
With our extensive stock of contact lenses, most patients leave our office with a trial pair of their contact lenses and can even order a supply on the same day as their exam.
For those who have even higher prescription parameters, special custom lenses such as SynergEyes lenses can be ordered and shipped directly to our office.
Multifocal/Monovision
Want to get out of those bifocal glasses? Multifocal contact lenses, also called bifocal lenses, allow patients to see distance and near at the same time, without the additional need for glasses. Dr. Birkmann has many years of experience fitting these unique lenses. Even if you have never worn contact lenses, our staff makes the transition seamless with quick and easy training. Still have questions? Feel free to ask us about these great lenses!
Children and Contacts
With more advanced, breathable contact lenses such as the silicone hydrogel lenses on the market today, fitting children is safer and easier than ever. There are many reasons why contact lenses might be a good choice for children. Many children don’t wear their glasses consistently because of discomfort, an improper fit, simple forgetfulness, or any number of other reasons. For cases like these, contact lenses may be a preferable alternative for your child.
With contacts, your child will not have to worry about losing or breaking their glasses and an uncomfortable pair of frames will no longer be an issue. “Daily” lenses allow a new, fresh pair every day, eliminating the need to clean, store, and remember when to replace lenses.
For kids who are involved in or interested in joining sports, contact lenses can be leagues more convenient than glasses.
Dr. Birkmann has fit many young children in contact lenses with no problems. While there are no age limits for an exam, keep in mind that patient maturity, motivation, and personal and visual needs all contribute to the decision of whether a child is ready for contacts.
Sport Lenses
Contact lenses are a great alternative to glasses for nearly every sport. For example, contact lenses allow football players to wear their helmets without expensive, specially-made sports glasses, cyclists to slip on a pair of sunglasses over their contacts, and swimmers to see while wearing goggles.
Sport tint lenses are a relatively new concept. These lenses are made to enhance the visual performance of the athlete. Below are examples of the different colors and their benefits:
- Amber: Blocks high amounts of blue light to heighten contrast and visual acuity. These are particularly useful to improve contrast on grass and against blue skies. Sports: baseball, softball, football, cycling, fishing (especially in waters with grassy bottoms), golf, hunting, skiing, water sports, etc.
- Grey/Green: Heightens contrast (mildly) while preserving color balance and reduces brightness. An all-around safe choice for most outdoor sports in the bright sun.
- Blue: Blocks blue light to heighten contrast and visual acuity. Sports: golf, tennis, skiing, etc.
- Yellow: Heightens contrast in overcast, hazy, low-light conditions outdoors or for indoor sports. Filters blue light for sharper focus. Sports: hunting, football, (nighttime activities).
- Sun Tac: Reduces overall brightness while preserving 100 percent normal color recognition. Good for light-sensitive eyes.
